John Hanson / Elias Boudinot / Thomas Mifflin

the first three presidents of the United States

Many people think this nation started in 1776. In that year we only declared our independence. We still had to fight and win our independence. We established our own government in 1781. But George Washington didn't become president until 1789, when The Consitution came into effect. We had eight presidents under The Articles Of Confederation.
