If M.C.Escher had drawn a map of Texas, you could use it as a repeating pattern.

Here is a pattern I made. The Texas shape is brown on a yellow background.

Now, when I reverse the colors, it's yellow on a brown background, but to some people it would look like it had been turned upside down!
